How to Reach Matheran
Reaching Matheran is quite convenient. Since it is just 100 km from Mumbai, it takes little effort and time to reach the hill station.
By Air :
Mumbai is the nearest airport lying at a distance of 100 kms from Matheran. One has to hire a taxi, bus or private car for reaching Matheran.
By Train :
There are plenty of local and Express trains running every day from the nearby cities of Pune and Mumbai till Neral. From Neral, travelers can take the toy-train ascending towards Matheran.
By Road :
Travelling by road is the easiest and undoubtedly the quickest way of getting in Matheran. One can hire a taxi available round-the clock which runs between Neral and Matheran. Within twenty minutes, one can reach the hill station from Neral.
History Matheran
Matheran or 'forest on top was discovered by the British in 1851. It was Hugh Poyntz Malet, the then collector of Thane district who actually found this serene hill town in the Sahyadri ranges
