Matheran is set at an altitude of 800 m (2,625 above sea-level). Its topographical location favours it to enjoy a pleasant climate characterized by low temperature and low humidity level. Clear sky, pollution-free mountain breeze, green vegetation has bagged it the title of eco-sensitive region.
The summer season begins in March and ends towards the end of June. During this season, the weather remains cooler with maximum temperature hovering around 32oC . Even in summers, the soothing mountain breeze nurses the burnt skin of the tourists from the plain and the nearby cities.
Mid -June is the beginning of monsoon period marked by heavy rainfall and thunderbolt. The rainy season is certainly not the ideal time to visit the hill station as landslides are a common feature.
Winters are equally enjoyable. The winter season arrives in November and continues till mid-March. The temperature remains a minimum of 16oC. Evenings are cold but the days are warmer. The soft rays of the sun during this season augment the pleasure of dancing around bonfires.
